Alloy 22, also known as Hastelloy 22*, is a fully austenitic, advanced corrosion-resistant alloy designed to offer exceptional protection against both aqueous corrosion and high-temperature attacks. It delivers outstanding resistance to general corrosion, pitting, crevice corrosion, intergranular attack, and stress corrosion cracking, making it a highly reliable material for demanding applications.

Alloy 22, a Nickel-based alloy typically containing 22% chromium, 14% molybdenum, and 3% tungsten, with iron content limited to less than 3%, is widely utilized across various industries including chemical and petrochemical processing, pharmaceutical, pollution control (flue gas desulfurization), power generation, marine, pulp and paper processing, and waste disposal. The alloy’s high chromium content provides robust resistance to wet corrosion caused by oxidizing media, such as nitric acid and ferric and cupric salts. Its molybdenum and tungsten content, on the other hand, gives it exceptional resistance to reducing media like sulfuric and hydrochloric acids.

Alloy 22 is particularly effective in seawater environments, offering excellent protection against corrosive attacks in both stagnant and flowing conditions. At elevated temperatures, the alloy’s high chromium content also provides resistance to oxidation, carburization, and sulfidation. Additionally, as a nickel-based alloy, Alloy 22 resists high-temperature attacks from halides, such as chlorides and fluorides. These combined properties makes Alloy 22 an ideal material for protecting steel tubes and other components in highly corrosive environments.
