Alloy 625

Alloy 625/ Inconel 625/ N06625/ 2.4856

Alloy 625 is renowned for its exceptional strength, outstanding corrosion resistance, and excellent fabricability, including ease of joining. With a service temperature range extending from cryogenic levels to 1800°F (982°C), this versatile alloy is suitable for a wide array of demanding applications. The alloy’s strength is derived from the stiffening effect of molybdenum and niobium within its nickel-chromium matrix, eliminating the need for precipitation-hardening treatments. This unique composition provides superior resistance to highly aggressive corrosive environments, as well as protection against high-temperature effects such as oxidation and carburization.

Alloy 625 is particularly well-suited for seawater applications due to its exceptional resistance to localized attack, including pitting and crevice corrosion, along with its high tensile strength, excellent corrosion-fatigue resistance, and immunity to chloride-ion stress-corrosion cracking. These properties make it a preferred choice for critical marine components, such as mooring cable wire ropes, propeller blades for motor patrol gunboats, submarine auxiliary propulsion motors, quick-disconnect fittings, exhaust ducts for Navy utility boats, and sheathing for undersea communication cables. It is also widely used in submarine transducer controls, steam-line bellows, and other high-performance marine and industrial applications. Additionally, INCONEL® Alloy 625 holds significant potential for use in springs, seals, submerged control bellows, electrical cable connectors, and fasteners.
